Amanda has helped my husband and me to both buy and sell co-op apartments on the Upper East Side. Amanda is very intelligent and honest. She is extremely knowledgeable about New York City, since she has been living there all of her life. I also find it important that Amanda is personable. She is very charming and fun to be with. I have known Amanda since we went to college together (many years ago!) at Harvard. She helped my wife and me negotiate a deal for our purchase of a co-op about six years ago. Since I am the managing partner of an institutional real estate private equity fund that buys and sells residential buildings in New York, I have worked with Amanda on various larger scale projects over the years as well. As an expert in the market, she has provided us with her judgment on what can be achieved in terms of sales pricing, velocity of sales, desired finishes, capital improvements, etc. Because my business requires me to work with brokers all the time, I can confidently say that, while the barrier to entry to be a broker is low, it is actually very, very difficult to be a top broker. At the most basic level, a good broker needs to know the market, the products and the pricing extremely well. But on a more challenging level, a good broker needs to manage a sophisticated intermediation between the buyer and seller - making both parties feel motivated to pursue the transaction. A good broker needs to understand the nuances of the market, and be able to advise the buyer or seller as to how to navigate the market conditions (this is particularly difficult today). A good broker in Manhattan needs to understand the issues and complexities related to putting together board packages, financial disclosure, etc. A good broker needs to have a network of professionals and references (i.e. lawyers, accountants, contractors) that she can access to facilitate a deal and to get things done. Finally, a good broker needs to be wise enough to understand that his or her relationship with a good client is more valuable than closing any particular deal. Amanda combines all of these qualities and is tops in every regard.

I worked with Amanda in August 2004 when she helped me buy a home in Carnegie Hill and have since consulted with her about potentially buying and selling homes in New York City. Amanda is smart and well connected to what is going on in the market; she grew up in New York so she knows the city well. She is also sensitive to her clients’ needs, whether she is working with a young family looking to upsize or an empty-nester looking to downsize. Amanda is very smart about pricing, but aware of her clients’ requests -- she definitely does not paint the situation in black and white.
