I follow the market very carefully and at any time I know every listing below 23rd Street that is on the market priced above $2M. To date I have sold almost $300 million of Manhattan real estate.

I have been selling lofts since 1984. When I first started selling lofts they were mainly located in Soho. Many were selling for $100 a square foot and most were owned by artists. Compare this with the most expensive lofts, which in the recent past were trading for over $4,000 per square foot. In some buildings, even though buyers were paying $1,400 a square foot, they still had to put their own garbage on the sidewalk!

I have sold many townhouses and understand all the intricacies involved from changing the Certificate of Occupancy to clearing the outstanding violations that often accompany old houses. I know when a house is well-priced and I can see it's potential. I recently brought such a house to the attention of one of my buyers, and was able to sell the house for them two years later for twice what they paid.

Many years ago, when my daughters were five and six years old, we moved from a seven-bedroom house in New Haven to Manhattan. I quickly learned to adjust my lifestyle and I found out what was important to make a happy home and how to ease the transition for my family. I learned all about the schools (public and private) and soon knew all the Downtown parks and playgrounds. I know where all the best food and specialty stores are, and can ease the anxiety of a relocating family.

If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well. I have applied that maxim to everything I do in life and real estate is no exception. When I started in this business 25 years ago, I was excited to view all the downtown properties that were for sale. That excitement has never left me. I bicycle everywhere and try to view every property in the price range in which I specialize. And because I have typically already seen all available properties, I can quickly identify which properties will work for my buyers. This saves a huge amount of frustration and wasted time. Most of my buyers are surprised to find how enjoyable finding a home can be.

My experience with Barbara was professional, enjoyable and informative. I was most impressed by her experience and her depth of knowledge, particularly regarding the downtown real estate market. She helped us to make a big decision, since this was our second home, and not a necessity. On a personal level, Barbara was fun to be around, and understanding of our needs on a day-to-day basis. Barbara has helped me buy and sell multiple townhouses in Manhattan, most recently in the West Village. Our relationship with Barbara has grown over time: she has taken us from our first purchase to our current, multiple, large purchases, so I think she has the scope to grow from a first-time buyer to somebody who does real estate as a business. Barbara is extremely straightforward and focused. We could have switched real estate agents multiple times, but we chose to stay with her because of the quality of her service. She understands exactly what her clients want and she has a vision for each client. Barbara is extremely attentive, responsive and responsible. Sometimes we will e-mail her at three in the morning and she always makes herself available. I would definitely recommend Barbara to a friend or family member. Barbara is a very special person as well as a top agent. I had an extraordinary experience working with her. She sensitively helped my husband and I with regards to the issue of my mother-in-law's home. My mother-in-law was 95, and we wanted her to move closer to us in the city. Barbara worked very hard to find the perfect apartment for her, but then at the last minute, my mother-in-law decided not to move. Barbara had worked for a very long time, but she did not get angry or demand anything. When my mother-in-law died, we turned to Barbara again. This was during the downfall of the market. Barbara worked incredibly hard and in a professional and kind manner. I don't believe anyone could have done a better job selling my mother's apartment than Barbara. Once Barbara found a buyer that the (particularly difficult) board would accept, Barbara managed to effectively meet everyone's needs. Barbara has no fake exterior; she is a New Yorker who knows and loves New York. She is able to break down the information to her clients because she lives the market. This makes her a cut above brokers who are only trying to make a profit. She remained in touch every step of the way, and she would answer questions before we even had the chance to ask them. We currently live in Westchester, and I can't imagine using anyone other than Barbara to buy or sell a home. I wish that she worked in this area as well. I have maintained an ongoing relationship with her for many years and I will continue to consult her. I have never met someone who is as professional and kind as she is. I feel lucky to have worked with Barbara.

I doubt that you would find anyone more enthusiastic and committed to finding what the client wants than Barbara. Barbara went out of her way in every way you could imagine to find apartments, schedule appointments at convenient times, and make herself available. Barbara was on top of all of the coordination necessary with other real estate agents, inspectors, sellers, and attorneys. She is responsive, conscientious and on-point. Further, she is extremely knowledgeable about all of the property in the downtown, and specifically Soho, market. I give Barbara the highest recommendation.

Barbara helped us purchase a loft in Tribeca. I think she’s amazing. She is one of the best people, let alone the best brokers I’ve ever met. One of the things I love about her is how realistic she is. She is always on my side. Barbara worked so hard to make sure that everything was perfect for us. I adore her and would recommend her to a friend or family member. On a personal note, I think that one of the coolest things about Barbara is that for 365 days a year, whether rain or shine, she rides around town on her bicycle. That is amazing considering she’s 70 years old.

Barbara was a pleasure to work with. She is tremendously fun and has a very interesting mindset. She made herself very accessible and she had lots of smart ideas. Barbara is very energetic and aggressive, but she spent a lot of time truly listening to us and our needs. When we first started our search, we articulated specific things we were looking for. As the search progressed, Barbara was able to understand which things were less or more important to us, and she managed to steer us towards choices we may not have otherwise considered, including the home we eventually bought. I would describe my experience working with Barbara as being nothing short of absolutely delightful. I had seen Barbara before in the neighborhood showing houses to a number of celebrity clients as she cuts quite a distinctive figure with her bicycle.
